How to choose the right screwdriver
Screwdriver type
Match it to the screw: Phillips/Pozidriv for cross-head screws, slotted for flat-head screws, Torx for tamper-resistant fixings. Many WIHA and Wera handles accept interchangeable blades.
Blade length
Longer blades reach recessed screws in deep cavities; short stubby models improve torque in tight spaces. Check the blade length specification for your particular application.
Torque & precision
Torque screwdrivers (e.g. Gedore 756-01 up to 120 Nm, certified to DIN EN ISO 6789) are essential where overtightening causes damage, such as electronics, medical technology and automotive engineering.
Electrical safety
Working on live installations? Use VDE-tested insulated screwdrivers rated for 1000 V from WIHA or Wera. They are mandatory for certified electrical work under EN 60900.

Safety standard: For electrical installation work, use only insulated screwdrivers certified to IEC/EN 60900 for 1000 V AC. Look for the VDE mark on the handle. Both WIHA and Wera hold full VDE approval for their insulated lines.
Frequently asked questions: screwdrivers
What is the difference between a Phillips and a Pozidriv screwdriver?
Phillips tips have four tapered flutes and are designed to cam out of the screw head under excessive torque, which protects the fastening. Pozidriv (PZ) has additional intermediate ribs that increase the contact area and prevent cam-out, and it is the standard in the European furniture and construction industries. For best results, they are not interchangeable.
When do I need a torque screwdriver?
Whenever the manufacturer specifies a tightening torque: electronics manufacturing, automotive components, medical devices or calibrated industrial connections. Models such as the Gedore 756-01 are certified to DIN EN ISO 6789 for traceability in quality-controlled environments.
Are all insulated screwdrivers suitable for 1000 V work?
Only screwdrivers with a VDE or GS mark and an explicit rating of 1000 V AC / 1500 V DC under IEC/EN 60900 may be used on or near live conductors. Standard screwdrivers with plastic handles are NOT approved, so check the product description for certification.
