Backing Pad 3M 61681 125 mm M14 Hook and Loop

The 3M 61681 Backing Pad 125 mm with M14 thread is a hook-and-loop accessory designed for use with rotary and random orbital sanders. It provides a flat, stable platform to secure abrasive discs during sanding, polishing and finishing operations. The hook-and-loop fastening allows quick attachment and removal of sanding discs, while the M14 threaded mount ensures compatibility with many professional power sanders that accept an M14 spindle.

Advantages

This backing pad offers consistent support across the abrasive surface to promote even material removal and a uniform finish. The hook-and-loop face reduces disc slippage and enables fast disc changes, improving workflow efficiency. The reinforced structure with an M14 thread delivers reliable mechanical connection to compatible tools, helping maintain concentric rotation and minimize vibration during operation.

How to use

Install the backing pad onto the sander by screwing the M14 thread securely onto the tool spindle following the tool manufacturer's torque recommendations. Align the abrasive disc with the pad and press firmly to engage the hook-and-loop fastening. Operate the sander at the recommended speed for the abrasive and material being worked on. Replace discs by peeling them off and pressing a new disc onto the pad; check the pad and disc regularly for wear and replace the pad if the fastening surface or structural integrity is compromised.

Recommendations

Use abrasives rated for the intended material and match disc grit to the required surface finish. Observe the sander's maximum RPM rating and avoid excessive side pressure that can accelerate wear. Regularly inspect the backing pad for damage and keep both pad and abrasive discs clean to ensure secure hook-and-loop engagement.
