Edimax GS-3008P managed switch

The Edimax Pro GS-3008P is a managed Gigabit Ethernet switch in a compact desktop form factor, offering 8 ports including 4 Gigabit PoE+ ports. It is designed for small office and home office (SOHO) environments and provides web-smart management for VLAN, QoS and IGMP snooping v1/v2/v3. The switch supports IEEE 802.3at/802.3af standards, a 72W total PoE budget and features auto detection with power backfeed protection. In addition to standard Gigabit switching, the GS-3008P can extend PoE power delivery up to 200 meters when configured per port at 10 Mbps duplex, allowing flexible placement of PoE devices such as access points, IP cameras and VoIP phones.

Advantages

The GS-3008P combines managed switching features with Power over Ethernet to simplify installation and reduce cabling needs. Four IEEE 802.3at PoE+ ports supply up to 30 W per port within a 72 W budget, while auto detection prevents non‑PoE devices from receiving power and backfeed protection avoids damage from passive injectors. Web-based smart management offers QoS controls, VLAN configuration and IGMP snooping to improve traffic handling and multicast performance. The desktop design fits SMB workspaces and supports common IEEE networking standards for reliable interoperability.

Suitable for

• Small office / home office networks requiring managed switching and PoE
• Deployments with access points, IP cameras or VoIP phones
• Locations where power outlets are limited or ceiling/remote placement is needed
• Environments needing VLAN segmentation, QoS and multicast control

How to use

Place the GS-3008P on a stable desktop surface and connect uplink and client devices using Cat5e or higher Ethernet cables. Use the web‑based interface to enable PoE on required ports, configure VLANs, set QoS priorities and enable IGMP snooping for multicast streams. When extending PoE to 200 meters, configure the specific port to operate at 10 Mbps duplex to provide stable power delivery to the remote device. Verify connected devices with the PoE auto detection feature before applying power.

Recommendations

For stable long‑range PoE operation, use quality shielded or unshielded Cat5e/Cat6 cables and limit electromagnetic interference near the cable runs. Ensure the total PoE power consumption of connected devices does not exceed the 72 W budget; distribute high‑power devices across ports accordingly. Regularly update the switch firmware via the web interface to maintain security and compatibility.
