Fixed barcode reader Newland FM430 Barracuda

The Newland FM430 Barracuda is a fixed barcode reader designed for reliable 1D and 2D scanning in retail, logistics and self-service environments. Equipped with a megapixel CMOS camera, the FM430 decodes a wide range of linear and matrix codes with high speed. The compact unit connects via a 2 m USB cable, is powered from USB (5 V) and is built with ABS/PC housing with an IP54 rating for protection against dust and moisture.

Advantages

The FM430 Barracuda combines a high-resolution sensor with an infrared sensor and adjustable white lighting so barcodes are captured quickly even in low light or on mobile screens. It supports both handsfree and manual-trigger operation and can be configured for short- or long-distance reading. The scanner is lightweight and durable, offers wired USB connectivity, and is available with an optional visible laser aimer for easy targeting.

Adjust mounting distance and sensor settings according to the expected barcode sizes and typical presentation distance to optimise read performance.

Recommendations

For best results, ensure barcodes are within the recommended read distance and keep the scanner window clean. Use the IR and light sensor settings to improve scanning from mobile phone screens and in dim environments; consider the optional laser aimer to simplify alignment for inexperienced users.
