Handheld Barcode Reader Datalogic PowerScan PM9100

The Datalogic PowerScan PM9100 handheld bar code reader is a cordless linear imager designed for industrial use and 1D barcode capture. It combines a green scanning line with the benefits of a linear imager, offers Datalogic’s STAR Cordless System narrow band radio at 433 MHz with a wireless range up to 50 meters, and is available in versions with no display, a 4-key display model, or a full alphanumeric keypad. The device is built for harsh environments with an IP65 rating, shock resistance, a 2150 mAh Lithium‑Ion battery, and multi-interface wired options including RS-232, Keyboard Wedge and USB.

Advantages

The PM9100 provides laser-like line definition using a green scanning line while retaining the durability and safety of an imager. Enhanced good-read feedback is delivered by Datalogic’s 3 Green Lights (3GL), patented Green Spot projected directly on the barcode, and dual Good Read LEDs for visibility from multiple angles. Available variants let you choose the needed keypad and display configuration. The scanner supports common 1D symbologies and offers both wired and wireless connectivity for flexible deployment.

How to use

Power the PM9100 using its Lithium‑Ion battery or connect via the wired interface. Aim the green scan line at the 1D barcode so the line crosses the code and pull the trigger to read. For cordless operation, ensure the scanner is paired with the STAR Cordless base and within the radio range. Use the model’s display and keypad, if present, to navigate configuration menus or to confirm settings; otherwise configure via the host system over the chosen interface.

Recommendations

Operate the scanner within its specified temperature and radio range, keep the scan window clean for optimal read rate, and choose the model with the keypad/display that matches your workflow needs. For environments with heavy dust or moisture, confirm regular maintenance intervals to maintain IP65 performance.
