iFixit Safety Glasses Basic by iFixit — Clear Lenses, Basic Eye Protection

iFixit Safety Glasses Basic are clear-lens protective safety glasses designed to provide basic eye protection during repair work, DIY projects and general workshop tasks. The glasses feature transparent lenses for unobstructed vision and a lightweight frame that sits close to the face to reduce ingress of dust and small debris while maintaining comfort for extended wear.

Advantages

These safety glasses offer simple, functional protection against dust, splinters and light impacts without tinting or optical distortion. The clear lenses ensure accurate colour perception and visibility when working with small components, and the minimal frame design keeps the weight low and pressure points to a minimum. They are easy to clean and store, making them practical for frequent use in electronics repair and household tasks.

Suitable for

• Electronics repair and assembly
• DIY and household maintenance
• Light workshop tasks and hobby projects
• Protection from dust, wood or metal shavings and small flying debris

When it may not be suitable

These glasses provide basic eye protection but are not intended for heavy industrial use or situations with high-velocity projectiles, hazardous chemicals or molten materials. They do not replace specialized eye protection such as goggles with full sealing, respirator-integrated visors, or impact-rated face shields required for certain professional applications.

Key specifications

• Lens type: clear, non-tinted lenses for unobstructed vision
• Protection level: basic eye protection against dust, light impacts and small debris
• Frame: lightweight, low-profile frame designed for comfort during extended wear
• Fit: close-fitting design to reduce ingress of particles; universal fit for most adult users
• Maintenance: easy to clean with mild detergent and soft cloth

How to use

Before use, inspect the lenses and frame for cracks or damage and ensure the glasses are clean. Place the glasses on so the frame sits comfortably over the bridge of the nose and the temples rest securely over the ears. Adjust position to ensure the lenses cover the eyes fully and provide an unobstructed field of view. After use, clean lenses with a mild detergent or lens cleaner and a soft cloth, then store the glasses in a protective pouch or case to avoid scratches.

What to consider before purchase

• Intended use: suitable for light workshop and repair tasks but not for heavy industrial hazards
• Fit and comfort: check compatibility with prescription glasses or additional PPE
• Cleaning and maintenance: prefer non-abrasive cleaners to avoid scratching lenses
• Replacement: consider having spare glasses if you use them frequently

Recommendations

Use the iFixit Safety Glasses Basic whenever there is a risk of dust or small debris contacting your eyes during repairs, soldering prep, cutting or drilling. Pair them with hearing protection and gloves as needed for a more comprehensive personal protective equipment setup, and replace them if lenses become scratched or frames show signs of damage.
