InLine 36905 FireWire 400 to 800 cable 5m plug/plug black

Adapter cable for connecting FireWire 400 (IEEE 1394a) devices with a 6-pin connector to a FireWire controller with an IEEE 1394b (800 Mbit/s) 9-pin connector. The InLine 36905 cable is 5 metres long, has male-to-male connectors (6-pin to 9-pin) and a black, flexible jacket designed for reliable high-speed data transfer between compatible devices such as cameras and external hard drives. FireWire 800 controllers are downward compatible with FireWire 400 devices, so this cable enables connectivity and data exchange between the two standards.

Advantages

The cable provides a direct physical adapter between FireWire 400 and FireWire 800 ports without the need for additional converters. Its 5 m length allows greater placement flexibility for devices, and the male-to-male 6/9-pin configuration matches common FireWire device and controller connectors. The black outer jacket is durable and flexible to suit typical installation environments.

Suitable for

• Connecting FireWire 400 devices (6-pin) such as video cameras to FireWire 800 (9-pin) controllers
• Linking external FireWire hard drives to computers with IEEE 1394b ports
• Extending the reach between FireWire peripherals and a workstation or audio/video interface

How to use

Connect the 6-pin male end of the cable to the FireWire 400 device and the 9-pin male end to the FireWire 800 controller or port on your computer or hub. Ensure both devices are powered off when making the connection if recommended by the device manufacturers, then power them on and allow the host system to recognise the peripheral. Use device drivers or operating system tools as required for the connected hardware.

Recommendations

For stable performance, avoid sharp bends and excessive tension on the cable. Use the shortest practical length between devices when maximum throughput is required, and ensure device firmware and drivers are up to date to maintain compatibility across FireWire standards.
