Light sensor Panasonic EQ501T — triangulation series EQ500, detection range 2.5 m

Panasonic EQ501T is a triangulation light sensor from the EQ500 series designed for non-contact detection and distance measurement up to 2.5 m. The sensor emits light and measures reflected beams to determine object presence and approximate position, offering a compact optical solution for industrial automation tasks where short-to-medium range accuracy and reliable switching are required.

Advantages

The triangulation principle provides stable detection of object position and distance with reduced sensitivity to surface color compared with simple reflective sensors. The EQ501T offers a clear detection range specification of 2.5 m, compact mechanical dimensions suitable for machine integration, and optical measurement that supports precise non-contact detection. Its design is compatible with typical factory environments and control systems, enabling straightforward replacement or integration within existing automation setups.

Suitable for

• Object presence detection on conveyor lines
• Short-to-medium range positioning and part alignment
• Quality control tasks requiring non-contact distance sensing
• Integration into machine vision pre-check or triggering systems

Key specifications

• Detection method: triangulation (optical emitter and receiver)
• Specified detection range: up to 2.5 m
• Measurement type: non-contact presence and distance indication
• Typical application environment: industrial automation and machine integration
• Output behavior: switching output for presence/threshold detection (electrical interface varies by model)

How to use

Mount the sensor so its optical axis faces the target area and adjust the orientation to align with the expected reflection zone. Configure the sensor's switching threshold or teach function where available, following the manufacturer's instructions for target material and distance. Connect the electrical interface to the control system using the recommended wiring and ensure proper power supply and grounding. Verify detection by testing with representative targets across the working range up to 2.5 m and adjust mounting or settings to optimize repeatability and reduce false triggers.

Recommendations

Place the sensor where the field of view is free from obstructions and strong ambient light that could interfere with the optical path. For best performance, test with actual objects and surfaces present in the process and secure the sensor mechanically to prevent misalignment from vibration. Consult Panasonic technical documentation for environmental limits, wiring diagrams, and model-specific configuration options.
