RF IDeas WAVE ID Plus Mini Black Virtual-COM Reader

Secure access control and credential reading often require multiple readers for different card technologies, leading to clutter and complexity. The RF IDEAS WAVE ID Plus Mini solves this by combining dual-frequency reading in a compact, desktop-friendly device. It reads both 125 kHz proximity and 13.56 MHz contactless smart cards, including HID Prox, iCLASS, MIFARE, DESFire, and more, through a single USB connection. With virtual COM port emulation, it integrates seamlessly with existing software that expects serial input, eliminating driver hassles and enabling quick deployment across Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android environments.

Who is it for

This reader is ideal for IT administrators, security professionals, and developers who need a reliable, multi-technology credential reader for PC logon, single sign-on, or custom applications. It suits healthcare, government, education, and enterprise settings where diverse badge populations exist and a compact, durable reader is required at workstations, kiosks, or shared computers.

Main features

• Dual-frequency support: reads 125 kHz proximity (HID Prox, Indala, EM410x, AWID, GE Casi Rusco) and 13.56 MHz contactless smart cards (MIFARE Classic, DESFire EV1/EV2/EV3, FeliCa, iCLASS, iCLASS SE/SR, PIV, CAC, NFC).
• Virtual COM port interface: emulates a serial port over USB, allowing drop-in replacement for legacy serial readers without extra drivers.
• Mini desktop form factor with black ABS housing for discreet placement; tri-color LED and audible beeper provide user feedback.
• Field-upgradable firmware and available SDK for custom application development.
• Bus-powered via USB—no external power supply needed.
• Broad OS compatibility: Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android.

Tips

Position the reader away from metal surfaces and other RFID devices to maximize read range. For custom integrations, download the RF IDEAS SDK to tailor output formats and keystroke emulation. Use the virtual COM port mode when your application expects serial data; otherwise, the reader can be configured for keyboard wedge output via firmware settings.
