Synology DiskStation DS423 NAS

Simplify your data management with the Synology DS423, a compact 4-bay NAS designed for secure private cloud storage, file sharing, backup, photo organization, and basic surveillance support. The DS423 supports up to 72 TB of raw capacity and provides multi-platform access so you can browse, edit, and share files from desktop clients, mobile apps, or web browsers. Built on Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM) and using the Btrfs file system, the DS423 offers snapshot-based protection and tools to manage file permissions and data ownership.

Advantages

The DS423 centralizes dispersed data from PCs, Macs, phones, and external drives, enabling straightforward synchronization and cross-platform sharing while retaining full ownership of stored content. It supports on-demand sync to minimize local device storage usage, integrates with public cloud services such as Google Drive, Dropbox, and Microsoft OneDrive, and provides license-free backup solutions for computers and mobile devices. The system also includes surveillance capabilities for up to 30 IP cameras, intuitive admin controls, and near-instantaneous snapshot replication for fast recovery.

Recommendations

For reliable performance and redundancy, use enterprise- or NAS-rated hard drives sized to your storage needs and configure appropriate RAID levels. Regularly enable Snapshot Replication and off-site backups to protect against ransomware and accidental deletion. Ensure cameras used for surveillance are on the validated model list or ONVIF-compatible and review alerts and recording settings periodically.
