Synology RXD1219sas disk array 0 TB Black Grey

The Synology RXD1219sas is a 2U external SAS expansion unit that adds up to 12 additional 2.5" or 3.5" SAS drive bays to compatible Synology servers. It connects via a mini-SAS HD cable and enables on-the-fly capacity expansion so the drives in the expansion behave as internal drives of the host server. The unit has a compact 2U form factor and is intended for small and medium business environments requiring scalable storage growth.

Advantages

Redundant power supplies and hot-swappable drive trays reduce service downtime and simplify maintenance. Key components such as SAS modules and system fans are modularized for easy replacement. The mini-SAS HD interface provides high-bandwidth connectivity to maintain throughput between the server and the expansion unit.

Suitable for

• Expanding storage capacity of Synology servers in small and medium businesses
• Adding additional SAS HDDs or SSDs without powering down the host
• Environments that require high availability and easy maintenance

How to use

Connect the RXD1219sas to a compatible Synology server using a mini-SAS HD cable. Once connected, the expansion bays are recognized and can be populated with SAS HDDs or SSDs; drives operate as if they are internal to the host server, allowing on-the-fly expansion. Replace failed drive trays or modular components while the unit remains powered, following standard electrostatic discharge precautions and the server manufacturer's installation guidelines.

Recommendations

Install supported Synology firmware and verify compatibility with your Synology model before adding drives. Use matching drive types and capacities where possible, maintain backups, and ensure adequate cooling and rack mounting per the server and expansion unit documentation.
