Network media converter PLANET FT802S15

The PLANET FT802S15 is a Fast Ethernet media converter that converts 100Base-FX single‑mode fiber to 10/100Base‑TX shielded twisted pair (STP). It provides a 100 Mbit/s fiber link using an SC connector at 1310 nm and supports a maximum single‑mode fiber distance of 15,000 meters. Housed in a metal casing and compliant with FCC Class A and CE Class A, this converter offers a single RJ‑45 10/100Base‑TX port and one SC fiber port for straightforward fiber-to-copper extension in network installations.

Advantages

The FT802S15 supports both half‑duplex and full‑duplex operation and can auto‑adapt to the highest performance mode supported by the connected STP device, enabling up to an effective 200 Mbps bandwidth in full‑duplex environments. It includes manual override for duplex selection on the fiber interface and implements Link Fault Pass‑Through (LLCF/LLR) to quickly notify administrators of link failures. The unit’s durable metal enclosure and standard power input make it suitable for rack or desktop deployment.

Suitable for

• Extending Ethernet networks over single‑mode fiber up to 15 km
• Connecting switches or workstations to a fiber backbone
• Environments requiring link fault signaling and manual duplex control

How to use

Install the FT802S15 on a stable surface or in a suitable rack location and connect the device to AC power. Connect the single‑mode SC fiber cable (1310 nm) to the fiber port and the STP Ethernet cable to the RJ‑45 port. The converter will auto‑negotiate duplex mode with the connected copper device unless you set the duplex override switch on the fiber interface. Verify link LEDs to confirm established connections and proper operation.

Recommendations

For reliable long‑distance links, use single‑mode fiber with appropriate SC connectors and ensure both ends match in wavelength and type. Enable LLCF/LLR via the DIP switch to allow immediate detection of link failures by monitoring equipment. When connecting to devices that support full duplex (switches or modern NICs), leave auto‑negotiation enabled to achieve full‑duplex performance.
