PLANET GST-805A Network Media Converter

The PLANET GST-805A is a compact Gigabit media converter designed for FTTX and general fiber-to-copper connectivity. It converts between 10/100/1000Base-T (RJ-45) and 1000Base-SX/LX interfaces using an SFP fiber optic connector, providing stable Gigabit performance and extended transmission distances for various fiber applications. The unit supports standalone operation via a 5V DC adapter or can be installed as a slide-in module in PLANET 19-inch managed 16-slot media converter chassis (MC-1610MR / MC-1610MR48).

Advantages

The GST-805A delivers reliable media conversion with Gigabit-capable throughput and flexible fiber options through SFP modules. It supports auto MDI/MDI-X on the TP port and offers DIP-switch selectable smart functions including fiber auto-negotiation/force and Link Loss Carry Forward (LLCF) / Link Loss Return (LLR) for link fault detection. Its compact black housing and chassis slide-in compatibility simplify deployment in both standalone and rack-mounted environments.

Suitable for

• Extending Ethernet links over multi-mode or single-mode fiber for campus and building networks
• Connecting Gigabit copper switches or routers to fiber backbones
• Integration into managed PLANET media converter chassis for centralized monitoring

How to use

Install an appropriate SFP module for the required fiber type and insert it into the SFP slot. Connect the RJ-45 port to your Ethernet device and the fiber connector to the fiber link. Configure the DIP switches to select desired fiber auto-negotiation or forced mode and enable or disable LLCF/LLR as needed. Power the unit with the supplied 5V DC adapter for standalone use, or slide the converter into a compatible PLANET 16-slot chassis to allow centralized management and monitoring via the chassis interfaces.

Recommendations

Use multi-mode SFP modules for short-distance links and single-mode SFPs for long-distance connections; enable LLCF/LLR in environments where quick link-failure detection and notification are required. For centralized monitoring and management, install the GST-805A into a PLANET MC-1610MR series chassis.
