Varta POWERLCD Battery Charger

The Varta POWERLCD is an auto/indoor battery charger designed for AA and AAA Nickel‑Metal Hydride (NiMH) rechargeable cells. It supports charging of two or four batteries and works from both 12V (car adapter included) and 100–240V mains. The charger features an LCD to show charging status, uses the -Delta V method to detect full charge, and includes safety functions such as bad‑cell and alkaline detection, temperature control, trickle charge and a timer cut‑off.

Advantages

The charger provides flexible operation for use at home or in a vehicle thanks to the included 12V car adapter and wide mains input range. Fast recharge capability (approximately 2–4 hours depending on cell size and condition) is combined with safety features: -Delta V detection for accurate charge termination, temperature monitoring to avoid overheating, protection against charging non‑rechargeable or defective cells, and a trickle charge mode to maintain battery capacity. The LCD gives clear, real‑time information on charging status.

Suitable for

• Charging AA NiMH rechargeable batteries
• Charging AAA NiMH rechargeable batteries
• Home use with 100–240V mains
• Charging in a vehicle using the 12V adapter

How to use

Insert two or four AA or AAA NiMH batteries into the charger, observing correct polarity. Connect the charger to a 100–240V mains outlet or to a 12V car socket using the supplied adapter. The LCD will display charging progress. The device automatically detects full charge using the -Delta V method and will stop charging or switch to trickle mode as appropriate. If a defective or non‑rechargeable cell is detected, or if temperature limits are exceeded, the charger will cut off to prevent damage.

Recommendations

For longest battery life, use the charger’s trickle charge function to maintain fully charged NiMH cells and avoid leaving primary (alkaline) cells in the unit. Charge batteries at ambient room temperature and follow polarity markings when inserting cells.
